Microcrafts...a review...and the cutest little things you've ever made...

10.12.2011
Have you heard of Microcrafts?

I guess I'd seen them before...tiny little, well, crafts...of all kinds...and all really small...and really cute.
But, I'd never made any microcrafts...hadn't ever really thought about making any...until Eric from Quirk Books contacted me to see if I would like to review one of their newest books, appropriately titled, Microcrafts...

and I said, "of course!" because, quite frankly, what crafter wouldn't want a new craft book to play with?

I wasn't sure what to expect...but when the package arrived...and I opened it...this is what I saw...and I was immediately in love...

I love this cover...don't know why...just do...

And then I opened the pages and flipped through them...and, oh my goodness, I couldn't wait to get started on some of these adorable projects!

There are 25 mini-crafts in this book and they are all do-able fairly quickly and usually with items you already have around the house (that's the best part...I didn't have to run out to Michaels to buy a lot of stuff...I could just open the book and start doing...). The directions are clear and easy to understand and there are so many beautiful photos of the projects...both in process and completed...

There are crafts using paper, felt, clay, yarn, fabric...everything! And there are tips and tricks included on how to adapt the designs to suit your style and even how to create your own "small-scale designs."

Here's a screen shot of the table of contents (from Amazon.com)...

Who knew you could do so much with so little?

Some wonderful little candy creations...made with polymer clay...

And teeny-tiny books...aren't these spectacular?
The above photos are all copyrighted work...

And this link will take you to a more extensive preview of the book (again, from Amazon)...I highly recommend you go check it out...

Here are a couple of things I whipped up in literally under 5 minutes...little party hats! Aren't they wonderful??? I'm putting these on all of my decorations for our Halloween party...

I will admit...it took a little bit to get my fingers working correctly...they're not used to working on super-small little things...but, it did get easier the longer I worked at it. And I did have to purchase a pair of little sewing scissors (you know, the kind shaped like a stork?) - the giant Fiskars I normally use for everything were just too darn big to make the small little cuts needed to do some of this work...OH, and I also needed to work under a lamp...I guess my old age has caught up with me and I couldn't see a darn thing I was doing otherwise...

All in all, this book is AWESOME...wouldn't it make a wonderful gift for all of your crafty friends? And so many of these finished designs would be perfect to use as gift toppers or ornaments, too!  And each wonderful tiny little creation takes just minutes to make...

I'll be sharing some more of my finished microcrafts soon...I can't get enough of these sweet babies...
