...anthro monogram mug knockoff...

5.04.2011
I was surfing through Anthrpologie the other night...quietly weeping over all the amazing items I will never be able to afford.

Oh, Anthro, why do you treat me this way? I love your shoppe (the fancy way to spell "store") and yet I feel distanced from you (57 minutes to be exact...if there's not a lot of traffic)...I aspire to someday wear your outfits, open a dresser outfitted with your drawer pulls, write on your $42.00 pads of paper...but, until then...thank goodness for the web and it's abundant knockoff ideas.

Let's add one to the bunch, shall we?

My Anthro knock-off monogram mug...
Now, coming in at just $8.00, the original of this mug is one of the few things at A that I could actually buy without having to raid the kids' college funds. HOWEVER, never wanting to spend 1 cent more that I have to, I decided to make my own. Plus, that 57+ minute drive would cost more in gas than the little mug itself...

So, here we are: the originals (which I do absolutely adore, and will probably end up buying next time I'm at my Mom's house - she's just 5 minutes from A)...

Anthropologie's Homegrown Monogram Mug

The colors and paintings on these are just so cool...and I love how the monograms look (and probably are) handpainted...

And here's mine:

I love the way the "M" looked on the original, so I did mine the same (sorta) way...

I just used a stencil that I made with Mabel (my Silhouette), painted the mug (from the Dollar Store - booyah), waited for it to dry and free-handed the "m" - I used acrylic paints, because I wanted to be able to just wash the paint off when I wanted a new look (or a cup of coffee)...

I like the way it turned out...
Grady (my middle boy) asked if the mug was going to be used to hold M&Ms...hmmm...I knew I recognized that "m" from somewhere...
