...one down...

5.02.2011
You may remember the $2.00 chair I recently purchased from a church rummage sale (that red circle is the $2.00 sticker)...I called her the dark knight...just in case you didn't have the pleasure of seeing this horror beauty the first time, here she is again...

I suppose she was fine as she was...in 1975...in someone's dark basement...
I don't know, maybe it was the black vinyl upholstery that screamed "dungeon-deco" to me...

Anyway...drum roll please...here she is now...

This was my second furniture redo (I did the sewing stool, too...), so if you're really really really good at refinishing furniture and you see tons of mistakes in my work, please be gentle...

First I spray-painted on 2 coats of white primer...then I took some Martha Stewart Paint (Gull in Eggshell) that I had left over from when I repainted my kitchen. I added just a pinch of Martha Stewart in Lagoon (what I used on my painted rug) and got this really pretty, super-faint, greenish-blue. I brush-painted on two coats of that, distressed it a bit with coarse sandpaper, antiqued it some with Valspar Antiquing Glaze and covered the whole chair with 2 coats of furniture wax.

I used a drop-cloth to reupholster the seat & back cushions and then ran a line of trim around both cushions...(anyone who reads Miss Mustard Seed will notice that I was heavily influenced by her work...)

I really like the way this turned out...and it looks great in my dining room...and now I really want to do more...
