my summer/fall transition home decor...I'm trying something new...

Each year, around this time, I get the urge to start decorating for fall.

But I'm torn.

On the one hand, it's still in the 80s outside and the leaves haven't begun to turn. On the other hand, the kids are back in school, the days are getting shorter and our trips to the pool have ended.

Somehow, leaving out all of the starfish, seashells, and bright colors of our summer decor just doesn't seem appropriate anymore...but neither do pumpkins, hay bales & jewel tones.

So this year, I've decided to do a little summer/fall transition decorating. All of the summer items have been put away, but the true autumn decor has yet to be unpacked.

This weekend I went shopping in my house to look for a few items that will take me through the end of September, when I'll start getting ready for Halloween decorating. I'll show you what I found in a moment, but first I want to remind you of what the house looked like for most of the summer...

And now:

I switched out most of the pillows for some darker ones...and I added a blanket to the couch for those cooler lazy mornings and evenings...what do you think of the pink? I wanted some color, but nothing too "fallish" - I was a little concerned about it at first, but it's really starting to grow on me. I think the colors add a little warmth without being too much...

I used Heidi Swap digital cutting files  and my Silhouette to make stencils for the Canvas Corp pillow cover that I painted. I really like the way it turned out...

I also added gold to the decor to warm up the pink even more...

This woven felt basket from Target takes the place of the bright yellow garden stool that was here all summer...

yikes...please (try to) ignore that awful hanging cord...

More gold accents and silk flowers (which I really can't stand, but they do the job...I'd much prefer freshly cut flowers, but the budget just won't allow for new bouquets every few days...) in reds, oranges & pinks...

So, there you have it. I think this will do me just fine for the next month. What do you think? How do you like the pink? And how do you solve the "in-between-time" decorating dilemma?

OH! And the bright yellow ledge that had the bee picture resting on it? That has been replaced with a dark brown wire basket hanging from the same nails the ledge was on...if I remember, I'll try to snap a photo...;)

  1. i love the touch of pink! it keeps it a little softer and lighter!

  2. Looks you just need to come decorate my home!

  3. Your home is gorgeous!
The digi pillow is to die for. Are you going to tut that?
My home is in total transition right now. Not even thot about fall decor yet. But love your inspo.

  4. That's the perfect in between color scheme! Love that pillow too!!!

  5. I just love the pink!!! What a great color pallet. I'm jealous, I haven't even begun to transition yet...sigh...

  6. Oh my Maggie I would just love to come over and walk through your house and take it all in.....AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. This looks awesome. I love the touch of pick and the pillow with the months. So clever. Now I'm thinking I need a little switcheroo. I'm feeling inspired.

  8. I love the pink! My poor fiance is the only man that lives in our house (with me and our 3 FEMALE pets; he says it's easy to be the alfa-male when you are the only male!) However, I use that as an excuse to work pink into our home... I have bright pink and teal barstools, pink pillows, and pink artwork. It works- and I think when it is paired with more manly colors (green, and blue, etc.) it makes it more acceptable. I LOVE the look of pink and navy together. Check out my pops of pink on my blog (under Living Room Tour and Appraisal Update!) and let me know what you think of mine!

Thank you so much for leaving me a comment! I so appreciate you taking the time to write...xoxo
