...easy kids' game...

...a few months back I was reading one of my favorite blogs...hello, splendor...and one of her posts (I can't for the life of me remember when she posted it...I looked and looked but couldn't find it) included a memory game she had made for her son using some wooden discs, printed circles & Mod Podge...

So, while strolling through Hobby Lobby (or as T-Bone calls it, Hobby Hobby) last night with the fam I came upon a value bag of little wooden circles...22 for $2.99. I snatched 'em up, punched some circles out of scrapbook paper, Mod Podge'd 'em, and there you go - easy peasy Memory Game that fits in your purse...ready to be played while waiting for the doctor, for dinner to arrive at a restaurant, or for bedtime to come... where/whenever your kid(s) are getting unmanageable...

Now I just have to remember to get them into my purse...

...amazing banana pudding...

A few weeks ago I hosted a vendor party at my house...it was so much fun and it was so fantastic to see some girls I haven't seen in ages...

Here is one of the desserts I made for the event...holy crow, was it goooooood...

...tiny little corrugated cups and wooden demitasse spoons are from Garnish...
...from Kraft Foods Food and Family magazine (Spring 2011)...

Deep-Dish Layered Southern Banana Pudding
You'll need:

*46 Nilla wafers, divided
*3 tbsp. butter, melted
*1/2 cup chopped Planters Pecans
*1/3 cup packed brown sugar
*1 tsp. ground cinnamon
*2 pkg. (3.4 oz. each) Jell-O Vanilla Flavor Instant Pudding
*2 cups cold mild
*1 tub (8 oz.) Cool Whip, thawed & divided
*4 bananas (1 lb.), sliced
*1 pkg. (8 oz.) Cream Cheese, softened
*1/4 cup granulated sugar

Step 1.
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Crush 30 wafters; mix with next 4 ingredients.
Spread onto botton of a 15x10x1-inch pan sprayed with cooking spray.
Bake 5 min.; stir. Bake 3 to 5 min. more or until golden brown; cool.

Step 2.
Beat pudding mixes and milk with whisk for 2 minutes.
Stir in 1 cup Cool Whip.
Layer 1/3 of the crumb mixture and half EACH of the bananas and pudding in 2-qt. serving bowl...repeat.

Step 3.
Beat cream cheese and granulated sugar in medium bowl with mixer until blended. Gently stir in 1 cup of remaining Cool Whip; spread over top, sealing to edge of bowl. Sprinkle with remaining crumb mixture. Refrigerate 3 hours. Top each serving with remaining Cool Whip and whole wafers just before serving...

That's it! Super easy...

Seriously, if you like banana pudding, you will lu-uh-uh-uh-uve this recipe...

...our old cork board {makeover}...

Featured on:
IhookedupwithHoHlamespice

What happens when a yucky old cork board meets some crown moulding, rosettes, a coat of paint and a paper window shade? This, baby...

Meet our subject...the 1980's, everyone-and-their-brother-had-one-of-these-in-his/her-room-and-had-all-of-his/her-Field Day ribbons-and-Senior Class pictures-pinned-to-them-with-plastic-pushpins cork board...just fine on it's own...but, just fine doesn't work here...

...hey handsome...you're about to get some jazzin' up...

Now meet our team of professionals...

...4 rosettes from Home Depot, .99 cents each...

The 8' strip of crown moulding failed to show up for photos, but he was cheap too, only $4.99...
...I got this stuff from Goodwill for $1.99...it's from IKEA, but I'm not exactly sure what it is...I think it's a paper window shade...it's super-flexible and paper-y...and it's the coolest super-dark shade of brown and it's texture-y...oh, and it smells sort-of like dirt...
...here's a close-up...any suggestions? Whatever it is, it's very loooong...118" to be exact...

I took those four little rosettes and glued 'em to the corners of the board using wood glue. I clamped them down for about an hour and then let them dry overnight...(I didn't say it was a fast process...)

Then my main man gave me a lesson on how to saw...yep...there's a right way and a wrong way. I knew only the wrong way...until now...and I gotta tell ya, the right way is sooooo much easier...

I measured the spaces between my rosettes and cut the moulding to fit in between...then I glued and clamped the trim and let that dry for a few hours...

Now, because I'm not a master carpenter (...yet...), there were some (small) gaps between the trim and the rosettes and I didn't really like the way it looked. So, at this point, I took out the spackling and filled all the little spaces.

When the spackling dried I took the board outside and painted the entire thing with 2 coats of white spray paint.

After the paint was dry, I cut the IKEA paper stuff to the right size, sprayed the back with adhesive and patted it into place over the old cork.

The paper-meets-trim edge didn't look sharp enough for me so I painted some old beaded trim I had (.99 cents/yard at JoAnn) with the white spray paint and I hot glued that around the inside edges of the cork...

Oh, yeah.

Much better...

You're welcome, cork board...you owe me one.

...world map lampshade...

...some map graphics, a little Mod Podge and black grosgrain and my plain white lampshade got a whole new look...

Here's how it went...
I downloaded these super-cool pdfs from The Graphics Fairy... they're from a 1915 Atlas...so awesome. I opened them up in PS Elements, removed the color and lightened them up and then printed them out on plain-old computer paper.

Mod-Podge'd 'em up...waited for 'em to dry & hot-glued the grosgrain to the top and bottom edges...easy-peasy lemon-squeezy.

Now, I wouldn't try to circumnavigate the globe using my lampshade...I did have to make some cuts in some strange places in order to get the maps to fit...and there is a possibility that now North America and Asia are sharing the same continent on my lamp...but it works for me...
