From my TN - A Day at the Theater

When was the last time you documented you?

For me, the answer to that question is a loooooong time ago. I'm just not a get-out-in-front-of-the-camera-type-girl.

But, Kinsley & I and a couple of our best girlfriends went to see "Mean Girls" a couple of weekends ago at the Nederlander Theatre in Chicago...

...and, I did get manage to get a couple of photos I can live with...so I thought I should probably document them...seeing as how that doesn't happen very often (see the Storyline layout I created from brunch that day).

Here's the TN spread I made...

Using a traveler's notebook to document a "Broadway in Chicago" show

First, I covered the left-hand side with a full-size photo.

This is really my favorite way to create in a notebook. It takes the guesswork out of one whole entire side of your spread (yay!) and I love the look of the larger photos.

Using a traveler's notebook to document a "Broadway in Chicago" show

On the right-hand side, I added a tiny bit of typed journaling.

To do this in my notebook, I simply cut a piece of white cardstock down to size, typed up my date, place, etc. and then adhered that cardstock into my notebook.

I'm sure there are heavy duty typewriters that could probably handle the entire notebook, but my typewriter is not that typewriter.

I added some stamping & a piece of washi tape and this spread was done!

These pages came together really pretty quickly...and now there's proof that I really was there...(smile).

Thank you so much for stopping by to take a look!

xoxo

Storyline: Documenting our Girls' Day Out

There was a time when I was creating at least 4 scrapbook pages a week (I think...I mean, who knows how many it really was...but 4 sounds like a good number, so I'm going with 4).

Things have changed a bit over the past few years...documenting in notebooks and planners has all but taken over the papercrafting industry...but I still love a good old traditional scrapbook page.

Now, my style has definitely changed since I first started scrapbooking. It's become a little more simple...a little less busy, with a LOT more white space...but, in general, the basic components have stayed the same - photo, date, journaling, embellishments.

Here's my latest page...created with a Heidi's Swapp's Storyline background & some ephemera from the Honey & Spice collection.

Documenting brunch with the girls...Storyline + Honey & Spice

I kept this page simple by enlarging my photo to fit the entire width of the 8.5" x 11" background.

Then I chose a few embellishments to fill in some of the space at the top.

I added all of the pertinent information...the Who, What, and Where...

...and finished by stamping in a couple of ink splotches.

Done, and done.

Thank you so much for taking a look!

a look back | february 2017

I think one of the biggest truths in life is just how quickly time flies.

It's absolutely terrifying.

Every time I look through my old scrapbooks, I find myself saying, "I just can't believe how much these kids have changed," or "How could that possibly have been (insert number here) years ago??? It feels like just yesterday!"

And those feelings are the exact reasons why I scrapbook.

I just can't imagine not having those moments...not being able to relive those memories.

It's one of my greatest joys in life...along with that moment when all of the kids leave for school in the morning and I know I have a FULL DAY of solitude and quiet...sigh...so so good...

...anyway...

In my effort to try to get people to write stuff down, and to take & print more photos, I've decided that, every weekend, from now until I get super bored with it, or until I completely forget (both of which are entirely possible), I'm going to post an older layout (or two) of mine.

I'm hoping to inspire you to start documenting...to start creating your own ways to relive your memories.

Quite frankly, I'm hoping to make you see just how valuable scrapbooking, in all its forms, and in any way you choose to do it, can be.

Here's this weekend's...

12x12 Sibling Scrapbook Page - Maggie Massey
Created for Studio Calico - February 2017 - Confidant Kits

I LOVE Grayson's face in this photo...

Sibling love, right?

smh...

Heidi Swapp said something years ago that I will never forget. And I'm super-paraphrasing here...but she said, "When you look at a single photo, it sparks so many memories...you can suddenly remember not only the event, but maybe the food, or maybe the weather, or a million other things you thought you had forgotten."

And that's so true.

Just by looking at this photo, I remember so much about this day.

And I guess that's what all this documenting stuff is about, right?

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend...

Valentine's Day Decor | Foundations Decor

Do you decorate your house for Valentine's Day?

I really don't. Not usually, anyway.

But this year I decided to put out a few things to brighten up the place after the put-all-the-Christmas-stuff-away letdown. Isn't that just the absolute worst? I swear, January & February are just. so. blah.

Valentine's Day Decor | Maggie Massey - MGDIY

Anyway...moving on...

I added a few pink pillows and some faux roses to our living room...and I also decided to add one of the little wood DIY pieces I've received from Foundations Decor.

Foundations Decor (in association with Fancy Pants Designs) has some really darling stuff - have you checked it all out yet?

In addition to the latest paper collections from Fancy Pants Designs, Foundations Decor carries unfinished wood decor that you can customize with paper, paint, embellishments, whatever your heart desires!

For this project, I started with the pine & MDF Pickup Truck.
Each piece is separate from all of the other pieces so that you can truly customize each and every shape.

I chose to use both paint and paper to decorate my Pickup.

This is the Collection Kit I used...Good Ol' Days...
...and these are the individual pieces from that Kit that made their way into my project...

I started by painting the main truck body white.

Then I painted the tire areas black.

When the paint was dry, I dry-brushed the white paint with black, and the black paint with white...just to add a little character and to take away some of the starkness of the paint.

I grabbed the wheel hubs & flatbed gate pieces, and traced them onto a piece of the McIntosh paper.

I cut out each piece and used a tape runner to adhere the pieces to the wheel hubs/gate pieces.

Then I just glued everything together! Easy peasy...

Next, I glued a little black heart from the Good Old Days Ephemera Pack to the back of the truck...and then I popped on a little puffy heart .

And finally, when the glue was dry, I rested a few little faux flowers in the truck's flatbed.

I love my little pickup truck!

And changing her out during the year will be totally easy. New flowers (or a Christmas tree!) and a couple of new embellishments will take this little decor piece from season to season...

Simply Earth | January Starter Box

Hello, hello everyone!

Happy 2020!

Here we are...the start of a new year...the start of a new decade!

So exciting!

You've heard me brag on Simply Earth oils for months now, right?

About how affordable and amazing the Simply Earth Recipe Box is, right?

Well, apparently I'm not the only one who thinks so...because Simply Earth is selling out of its current Recipe Box almost every single month!

So what does that mean for new subscribers?

Because Simply Earth is so fantastic...and because they don't want their new subscribers to have to wait to receive their first box...they have started shipping Starter Boxes to new subscribers who miss receiving the current month's Recipe Box...isn't that awesome?

I received one of the January Starter Boxes to review and let me tell you...the Starter Box is just as fantastic as the Simply Earth Recipe Boxes are!

I'm sure you're dying to see what's included in this fantastic box, but...I have a confession.

I've been rolling this onto my wrists at night and it's such a lovely scent to fall asleep to.

I just love the Simply Earth labels...the minimalist design is 100% awesome.

  • Fresh Air Diffuser Blend

I got a new family-room diffuser for Christmas, and this baby has been working overtime. This Fresh Air blend doesn't disappoint...
