Valentine's Day Decor | Foundations Decor
Do you decorate your house for Valentine's Day?
I really don't. Not usually, anyway.
But this year I decided to put out a few things to brighten up the place after the put-all-the-Christmas-stuff-away letdown. Isn't that just the absolute worst? I swear, January & February are just. so. blah.
Anyway...moving on...
I added a few pink pillows and some faux roses to our living room...and I also decided to add one of the little wood DIY pieces I've received from Foundations Decor.
Foundations Decor (in association with Fancy Pants Designs) has some really darling stuff - have you checked it all out yet?
In addition to the latest paper collections from Fancy Pants Designs, Foundations Decor carries unfinished wood decor that you can customize with paper, paint, embellishments, whatever your heart desires!
For this project, I started with the pine & MDF Pickup Truck.
Each piece is separate from all of the other pieces so that you can truly customize each and every shape.
I chose to use both paint and paper to decorate my Pickup.
This is the Collection Kit I used...Good Ol' Days...
...and these are the individual pieces from that Kit that made their way into my project...
I started by painting the main truck body white.
Then I painted the tire areas black.
When the paint was dry, I dry-brushed the white paint with black, and the black paint with white...just to add a little character and to take away some of the starkness of the paint.
I grabbed the wheel hubs & flatbed gate pieces, and traced them onto a piece of the McIntosh paper.
I cut out each piece and used a tape runner to adhere the pieces to the wheel hubs/gate pieces.
Then I just glued everything together! Easy peasy...
Next, I glued a little black heart from the Good Old Days Ephemera Pack to the back of the truck...and then I popped on a little puffy heart .
And changing her out during the year will be totally easy. New flowers (or a Christmas tree!) and a couple of new embellishments will take this little decor piece from season to season...
Take a look at all that Foundations Decor has to offer...you just may find something you can't live without...

It's that time again! Graduation! What I'm loving right now...Basic Invite
It's that time of year again...graduation!
I just can't believe how quickly time goes. I mean, I've heard people say that forEVER, but I think that until you get a bit older, and/or until you have kids, you don't really understand just how fast it goes.
Case in point...in just over a week, my almost 14 year old son will be graduating from 8th grade.
8th GRADE!
It seems like just yesterday he was helping my husband tune up our bicycles...
And now he's this man-sized, always-eating, hysterically funny, baseball-loving almost grown-up.
It's scary.
And awesome.
He doesn't want a huge party to celebrate his graduation...in fact, he just wants to have a few of his closest friends over...and that's OK by me.
But we still need to celebrate in style, right?
So when Basic Invite asked me if I would take a look at some of their design
graduation party invitations, I jumped at the chance!
Basic Invite prides itself on being one of the few invitation websites that offers almost unlimited color options with instant previews online. And, once you
select your design you can change the color of each element on the card
using 180 different color options! So you can make sure the card is
exactly how you want it down to the smallest detail.
I mean, really...180 different color options??? With instant previews???
PLUS, at Basic Invite you can order a printed sample of your actual invitation before you place your final order. I LOVE that option...I mean, seeing your choices online is one thing, but actually being able to hold your finished design in your hand before you order is really something that makes Basic Invite stand out.
Here are a couple of my favorite printed graduation invitation designs...

I LOVE this simplicity of this card...it's so timeless and lovely.

And the full-photo background is another one of my favorites...especially for boys.
My daughter will be graduating from high school in a couple of years...and I'll definitely be checking out some of these cute graduation party invitations for her.
I love the idea of putting your grad's future school on the card, too!
Basic Invite also has custom thank you cards available...
...and don't even get me started on the available foil options!
So elegant...
And just because I love them so much, I have to show you these gorgeous CLEAR business cards available at Basic Invite!
CLEAR BUSINESS CARDS!
I'm dead.
And right now, until the end of the month, Basic Invite is offering 15% off of any order with the code:

DIY Buffalo Check Banner | Heidi Swapp & DCWV
Unless you've been living under a rock for the past year, you're undoubtedly aware of the huge Buffalo Check trend.
I LOVE Buffalo Check and I'm thrilled to be able to find it around every corner this holiday season.
But, I have to admit, the fact that it's so popular this year probably means it will be out of style before too much longer.
Sigh.
That's why I'm taking the liberty of decorating my house with as much Buffalo Check as it can stand this year.
I've got pillows & blankets, mugs & plates, a kitchen rug & flannels, notebooks & paper, a tablecloth & napkins - the list goes on and on...all in this fantastic pattern.
So when I decided I needed just one more Christmas banner, there was no doubt as to what design I'd use...
I started by grabbing some paper from two of my favorite Christmas-themed paper pads from Die Cuts with a View:
Farmhouse Christmas and...
...Happy Wishes.
And then, because I didn't have any white Buffalo Check paper left from the Farmhouse Christmas stack (ahem...that got used up almost immediately), I decided to make my own using these two gorgeous designs from the Heidi Swapp Hawthorne Collection.
Midnight...
...and Ethereal.
Enter my wicked kindergarten crafting skills.
Now, I know that just doing a simple paper weave doesn't produce an EXACT Buffalo Check per se...but it's darn close.
And the woodgrain & birch paper really add some texture and interest to my banner pieces, don't you think?
I created the woven pieces by cutting my paper down into 1/2" strips, and then I wove them together, gluing them onto a pre-cut piece of 4"x6" scrap paper.
I decided to hang my banner using pieces from one of Heidi's newest Christmas banners...this MERRY banner from the City Sidewalks collection.
I used the star light string & the clips from the set to create my new banner, and I love the way it turned out!
Plus, now I have the M-E-R-R-Y left from the kit to use in another project!
This banner took me almost no time at all to create...well, except for the woven pieces...but I made those while we were watching Home Alone during family movie night, so that time doesn't really count...(smile).
The banner looks perfect strung up with our Advent calendar, and amidst some of my other favorite holiday decor.
Here's to many more years of plaid, plaid & more plaid!
Merry Christmas!

It's National Candy Corn Day!
Happy day-before-Halloween!
Did you know that today is National Candy Corn Day?
Did you know that today is National Candy Corn Day?
The way I see it, there are two types of people in this world...
Those that love candy corn, and those that absolutely despise it.
I, personally, LOVE IT.
LOVE.
IT.
And to celebrate my love for this tooth-achingly-sweet autumn treat, I put together this Letterboard!
Wanna see how I created my easy peasy custom Letterboard letters?
I started by taping off some 2" white letters.
Then, using acrylic paint & a foam brush, I simply painted my letters!
They're not perfect.
And I don't care.
It was quick & took almost no thinking.
And that's pretty much a prerequisite for my crafting projects these days.
We're having a little Halloween party this year...and this little treats table will be loaded with all sorts of yummies...but the candy corn will definitely be taking center stage.
Thanks so much for stopping by!
And Happy Halloween!

Heidi's Neon Glow...perfect for dorm room decor!
Back-to-school season is in full swing!
I just love this time of year...fresh starts & new pencils with autumn right around the corner.
And new beginnings are the perfect time for a change in decor! Especially for that college student looking to create a more unique and personalized dorm room.
Now, I know most college kids have already left for school...
...but that doesn't mean you can't send that special co-ed a care package that includes some fun new decor!
I mean, who doesn't love getting a box full of their favorite stuff?
Pop in a Heidi Swapp Neon Word & some Neon Wire (don't forget the batteries!) and watch your kid's room go from ho-hum to awe-some in just a few minutes!
Simply have your student add the Neon Wire to the word using the diagram on the back of the word's packaging, pop the batteries into the wire's pack & done!
Neon Words are so on-trend right now and are a fantastic addition to any bed, wall, nightstand, door, cork board, sorority house, anywhere!
And Heidi Swapp's Neon Words can be customized with a variety of wire colors! You can even paint the words to match school colors or decor design...they're the perfect little DIY project.
Find Heidi's Neon Words/Neon Wire at a Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Store near you or at joann.com .
