Heidi Swapp | Summer Party

Can you even believe summer is almost here?

That means summertime parties are almost here, too!

And what better way to celebrate than with darling little diy party accessories?

I used all things Heidi Swapp to create this little summer party set-up...and I think it all turned out so cute!

I started with some patterned paper from Heidi's Hawthorne collection and a little mini beach umbrella cut-file I purchased in the Silhouette store.

I cut the umbrellas out with my Silhouette and assembled them with a tape runner.

I love how beachy and rustic-looking these are!

Then I attached them to some wood skewers with a little hot glue.

Next, I took the labels off of these water bottles and attached the mini beach umbrellas with some washi tape from Heidi's Fresh Start collection.

Next, I used the Jumbo Kraft Letters & puffy "vibes" sticker (also from Heidi's Hawthorne collection) and my Minc machine to create these awesome picks!

Heidi's Letterboard is a MUST-HAVE for any party!

And the little washi pennants I created using Fresh Start & Hawthorne tapes & toothpicks are a great way to add color and texture.

Circles punched from more Hawthorne patterned paper and sewn together create a darling little banner for my bar cart, and Heidi's Lightbox is the perfect finishing touch for the bottom shelf!

The best thing about this party decor?

With all of the paper, washi, Letterboard & Lightbox options available, you can create a totally custom party for any theme!

Thanks so much for taking a look!

give those dollar bin notebooks a makeover!

We all love the Dollar Spot at Target. It's a fact. I've done research.

It's the first place I go when I step in to the store...and it's the last place I check (just in case they've put anything new out while I was shopping) before I leave.

And when I come across amazing items like these...

...I about lose mah mind.

On a recent trip I saw these lovely little journals and I bought every single one they had. Yep. I'm THAT person. I needed quick & easy teacher appreciation gifts and I just knew these would be perfect.

But before I wrapped them up and sent them along to school with the kids...I decided to dress them up just a bit.

I grabbed some of my stash supplies from Maggie Holmes and Dear Lizzy and got to work giving these babies a little makeover.

I added a few stickers a pieces of ephemera to the fronst of the journals, just to make them a little more personal...

I tried to keep them simple because I'm hoping they are taken out of and put back into purses & bags all day long...and I didn't want the embellishments to wind up stuck to the bottom of someone's bag.

The cover on the kraft/polka dot journal was really very thin...and I imagined it being ripped off easily...so I added a piece of patterned paper to the inside front cover to sturdy it up a bit.

In order to make the new paper look like it belonged there, I cut the paper to include the space beyond the binding coil, lined up the coils with my paper, marked their positions with a pencil and punched holes with the smaller setting on my Crop-A-Dile.

Next, I snipped the paper from the edge to the newly-punched hole...making sure to NOT cut past the hole.

Finally, I pushed each of the holes on the paper around each of the wires on the journal.

When that was all finished, I adhered the patterned paper to the cover so that the pieces acted as one...the cover was now much stronger and the inside front cover was much prettier.

The mint-green journals had a much stronger cover...so I didn't need to a add a piece of paper to them. BUT, I did a piece over the start of the journal paper...just because it looked so darn pretty.

I used a little glue dot to stick a flower cabochon to some mini-clothespins and then used that clothespin to attach a little tag (that the children wrote "thank you" notes on) and a Dunkin' Donuts gift card to the inside of the journal.

And just to add that little something extra, I adhered an envelope or glassine bag to the inside back cover of each journal. It's always nice to have a place to keep little notes or receipts.

And that was it!

A fun way to dress up these little notebooks...without taking away any of their natural "wow!"

Wouldn't these be great to make for your girlfriends as a "just because" gift? Inexpensive and so fun!

using Albums Made Easy cards on layouts...

Hey everybody!

Happy happy Monday! Today I'm sharing something I love...well, a few things I love.

I really really love scrapbooking (duh.) and I really really love pocket-scrapping our day-to-day lives. And now I really really love combining the two...

I've always kept my papers for the two scrap-styles separated...don't ask me why. I just figured that...well,truthfully I don't know what I figured.

BUT, recently, after getting a pack of Albums Made Easy cards from We R Memory Keepers, and after freaking out over the designs and colors, I decided I wanted to combine the two styles.

This is the package I got...

...just look at those gorgeous colors!

I started going through the box and found that, although the pack itself looks really pretty feminine, there are tons of cards that can be used for boy projects! Woo hoo!

I grabbed a bunch of cards I loved and got to work using them as mats under my photos on layouts...here's what I made...

I used just 3 cards on this layout of my son, Grayson...one 4x6 (the green chevron behind the photo) and two 3x4 (one horizontal and one vertical) just to the right of the photo.

The cards set the tone for the colors of my layout, so I just grabbed some things that I thought worked well and add them...and I love the way it turned out!

For this layout of my son, Tyler, I did basically the same thing, except this time I used two 4x6 cards behind my photo and 2 3x4 cards to the right of my photo. Now, you'll have to forgive me...it wasn't until I was editing these photos that I realized I created basically the SAME EXACT layout twice. I guess I just really love the basic design...

Each of these layouts came together in under an hour...probably because I didn't have a whole lot of figuring out to do. The cards dictated the embellishment colors and they were already the perfect size!

Soooo...how would YOU like some of these fantastic Albums Made Easy cards to help make your scrapping easier? You would? Of course you would...

I am giving away 4 sets of cards! Woo hoo! 2 sets of "boyish" cards...and 2 sets of "girlish" cards! Yay!

a new layout...using just one product...

Today on the Heidi Swapp blog I'm sharing a layout I love...

My challenge was to create a project using just one product. Yep. Just one.

And I did it!

Well, I mean, I had to use a photo, some cardstock, & some Color Shine, too...but other than that I used just one product! Yay!

Head on over to Heidi's blog to see what I used and for more information & more photos.

Thank you so much for stopping by!

Studio Calico April's Bluegrass Farm Sneaks!

best. time. of. the. month.

I just love the next few days...the time between the 23rd and the 27th of each month...the time between SC sneaks and the big reveal!

This month's Scrapbook Kits are ah-mazing. I know, I know...I say that every month. But seriously...I'm not kidding...each new month is more spectacular that the month before!

I went a little crazy this time around. I made 12 layouts. Yes. 12. And I used pretty much every single thing from every single kit. What?! So awesome...

Wanna see some sneaks?

These first 3 are made using the main Bluegrass Farm Scrapbook Kit only...

Main kit only...plus digitals. I've found that I'm using a ton of digitals in my layouts these days...I love that you can customize them in a million different ways. Plus, they're inexpensive...tons of bang for your buck...

Some more digitals in this one...I tried playing around with different techniques this month...

Another main kit only...plus digitals...plus my favorite...wax paper...

The rest are layouts I created with at least one add-on...again, digitals played a huge role this month...
