Valentine's Day Decor | Foundations Decor
Do you decorate your house for Valentine's Day?
I really don't. Not usually, anyway.
But this year I decided to put out a few things to brighten up the place after the put-all-the-Christmas-stuff-away letdown. Isn't that just the absolute worst? I swear, January & February are just. so. blah.
Anyway...moving on...
I added a few pink pillows and some faux roses to our living room...and I also decided to add one of the little wood DIY pieces I've received from Foundations Decor.
Foundations Decor (in association with Fancy Pants Designs) has some really darling stuff - have you checked it all out yet?
In addition to the latest paper collections from Fancy Pants Designs, Foundations Decor carries unfinished wood decor that you can customize with paper, paint, embellishments, whatever your heart desires!
For this project, I started with the pine & MDF Pickup Truck.
Each piece is separate from all of the other pieces so that you can truly customize each and every shape.
I chose to use both paint and paper to decorate my Pickup.
This is the Collection Kit I used...Good Ol' Days...
...and these are the individual pieces from that Kit that made their way into my project...
I started by painting the main truck body white.
Then I painted the tire areas black.
When the paint was dry, I dry-brushed the white paint with black, and the black paint with white...just to add a little character and to take away some of the starkness of the paint.
I grabbed the wheel hubs & flatbed gate pieces, and traced them onto a piece of the McIntosh paper.
I cut out each piece and used a tape runner to adhere the pieces to the wheel hubs/gate pieces.
Then I just glued everything together! Easy peasy...
Next, I glued a little black heart from the Good Old Days Ephemera Pack to the back of the truck...and then I popped on a little puffy heart .
And changing her out during the year will be totally easy. New flowers (or a Christmas tree!) and a couple of new embellishments will take this little decor piece from season to season...
Take a look at all that Foundations Decor has to offer...you just may find something you can't live without...

My Christmas Crafting Party
***This post contains an affiliate link. Also, as a partner to Heidi Swapp /American Crafts, I received items from those brands at no charge***
..........................................................................
Happy 6 days until Christmas!
A few weeks ago, I came across this post by Kristi & Kelli from Lolly Jane. I was so inspired by these little hoop wreaths that I wanted to create them again and again...and what better way to do that than to have a party where we're all making them?
So, this past weekend, I had a little Christmas crafting get-together for some of my closest friends, and a few of their daughters!
You can see my version of the wreath hanging from the little window in my Christmas vignette (see that post HERE)...
So, I gathered up supplies to make both that project...
...and this one. I adore the little solitary bottle brush tree in an ornament...and they're so easy to make!
For our wreaths, we would be using this adorable little paper house from Heidi Swapp. They are so easy to put together...and they can be decorated & dressed up however you want!
***You can find these darling paper houses online & independent retailers like Scrapbook.com - click HERE to see***
I bought some little plastic ornaments for our bottle brush trees, too.
Snow, glitter & wire were essential for making our projects. The wire (from Michaels) was what we used to secure our pine brances & houses to our hoops.
And, of course, no party is complete without sweets! Bundtinis from Nothing Bundt Cakes are my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE!
Everyone arrived, and we all started our projects. It was so awesome to see the variety in everyone's wreaths & ornaments!
That's really one of the things I love most about crafting...you can give a ton of different people the exact same supplies, and you will get a ton of different outcomes.
It's just so cool.
I love that the teenagers were really getting into it, too...
My younger son, Tyler, LOVES to craft...he made like 4 wreaths & 5 ornaments! I think the glittering was his favorite part...
Everyone's projects looked just so beautiful! I hope they love them as much as I do!
At the end of the party, everyone went home with a little gift...
...the slightly larger Heidi Swapp paper house...
I really think everyone had a good time...I know I did!
I'm already planning my spring crafting party...
MERRY CHRISTMAS, everyone!
I know these last few days can be stressful, but I truly hope you find some time to be creative!

National Kindness Day...with Heidi Swapp & Starbucks
Hey hey everyone!
Today is National Kindness Day!
And in honor of this very special day I want to share how my kids and I try to spread kindness this time of year...
A few years ago, we started a brand new tradition in our family...one that we continue throughout November and December...and it's a tradition we all love.
During the 8 weeks around the holidays my kids and I will go "Starbucking." Yep, Starbucking.
We'll stop off at a local Starbucks and grab about $100 worth of $5 gift cards...and throughout the fall we'll leave these cards on car windshields. It's probably one of the most fun things we do all year.
And it's definitely one of the most valuable.
This year we did a little something just a little different. This year we added some handmade Christmas cards to our little gifts.
To create the cards I used pieces from a brand new line of Heidi Swapp products found exclusively at Joann stores...products such as card kits, art screens, package decorating items - the list goes on and on...(find a list of stores carrying these exclusive items HERE).
Here are just a few of those exclusives...these are the ones I've used for this project:
And here are the cards I created...
We left Wednesday morning (the kids were off school for Veterans' Day) to run errands and stopped off at our local Target parking lot...
Here's Kinsley placing the first card...her M.O. is to find cars with baby seats in them...she figures moms with small kids really need a Starbucks break. She's right.
I sure hope so...and I hope that whomever receives the cards feels some sort of push to pay it forward.
It's really amazing to me...and I think my kids are learning this, too...that being kind to, and serving others, really benefits the one doing the kind act far more than the one receiving the benefit. It's a wonderful feeling.
How are you helping to spread kindness this year?
Here's my challenge to you...do something kind, something completely selfless, for a stranger today...I'll bet it brings a smile to your face.

Here are just a few of those exclusives...these are the ones I've used for this project:
*woodgrain card kit
*layered mistletoe cardstock stickers
*holiday art screens
*red art screen ink
*black art screen ink
*layered tags
*Special Delivery address labels
*red & gold tinsel ribbon
*acrylic stamps
These little layered tags are just perfect for turning into "ornaments!" For this card I simply added one of the little mistletoe layered stickers, and a small length of the gold tinsel ribbon...a little string and bow (created with my journaling pen) and done!
The stag art screen is just gorgeous...and this icon has become one of my very favorite winter symbols. I used black art screen ink for the deer and I adhered a few of the gold layers from the mistletoe stickers and a small piece of the gold tinsel ribbon to give him a little wreath. Some red art screen ink with the "merry christmas" art screen and this card was finished!
Here's another little "ornament" I created with the layered tags. For this one I added a little red bow (created from the red ribbon found in the ribbon pack along with the gold tinsel).
Here I used the "merry christmas" art screen again...and a few of the green layers from the mistletoe stickers.
This card was definitely the quickest one to create...all I used here was the "glisten sparkle etc." art screen. I love the simplicity...
And finally, another little stag - again with the black art screen ink. For this card I added a tiny little pearl (found on the mistletoe stickers) to the deer's nose...and I tied a length of the red ribbon around his neck as a scarf.*
*To do this, I punch two small holes into the front of my card with my Crop-O-Dile. Then I threaded the ribbon through and tied it...easy peasy!
What's your favorite? I truly can't pick just one...I really love them all...
OK...so once the cards were made I stamped a few of the envelopes that come in the kit and put our little kindness packages together...
Here's Kinsley placing the first card...her M.O. is to find cars with baby seats in them...she figures moms with small kids really need a Starbucks break. She's right.
Gray is a lot less selective...
We did a few cars at our local Joann as well...
We still have some cards left...we'll finish those up in the next few weeks.
I always have such a feeling of excitement after we do this...I wonder "who will get the card?" "Will they like it?" "Will they be happy?" "Do they even like Starbucks?" (smile)
It's really amazing to me...and I think my kids are learning this, too...that being kind to, and serving others, really benefits the one doing the kind act far more than the one receiving the benefit. It's a wonderful feeling.
